The Sources of Memory Failure: Investigating Representational Inhibition and Binding Errors

Why do our memories sometimes fail us with such predictable specificity? My research seeks to answer this by identifying two primary sources of memory error. I study how the failure to suppress irrelevant information during encoding clogs the memory system, and how the misbinding of features during retrieval creates vivid yet incorrect memories (swaps). This approach provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the architecture of memory by studying its points of fragility.
